Mattamiscontis Site Installations

The first week of our field season started off in Mattamiscontis. Initial training was held and preparations were done to set up the rest of the field season. We set out for some practice site installations as a team. Once broken up into teams, everyone set out for their assigned sites within the grid.

Logging roads and atv trails intersect most of the property. When we could drive no closer to the site, we hiked in the rest of the way and looked for suitable habitat to set up our hair snares.

30 sites were installed on the property, ranging from hills to wetlands. These are just some of the challenges we face when setting up traps. In total, the team saw a handful bears and even cubs.
